Artist Bio:
Jimmy Reynolds is the son of a painter and an architect. His father designed and built the Eastern Shore home in which Jimmy was raised. His childhood world included paintings, paint, brushes, artbooks, rolled stacks of blueprints, drafting tables and drawing tools. This led Jimmy to start painting at an early age.
Jimmy's painting grew out of his experiences growing up on the Chesapeake. He takes creative inspiration from the natural beauty of the bay and is inspired to create imagery that reflects the rich, complex and often darker history of the region. His paintings are based on old photographs, maps, and charts. He also relies on digital photography to create panoramic structures that make his artwork so original.
You will find landscapes and seascapes that mix time periods. This allows us to reflect on our historical past. Long forgotten buildings appear at first glance to be representational paintings of modern day life on the bay and slaves may dot lush summer landscapes or toil dockside along colonial waterfronts.
Jimmy works primarily on pine panels using acrylics and ink. He attended the University of Delaware majoring in Fine Arts. Today when he's not painting he is the Art director and boatbuilding coordinator at Radcliffe Creek School.
