Mr. Valdez has held key appointments: first as President George H.W. Bush’s personal photographer and head of the White House Photo Office; then as General Manager of Photography for Walt Disney Attractions, where Mr. Valdez created the company’s first digital imaging department. Mr. Valdez served as Special Assistant to the Assistant Secretary at the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development. He was assigned by HUD Secretary Mel Martinez to act as a liaison to www.hud.gov, the agency’s official web site. During his tenure at HUD, David expanded the role digital photography plays in capturing department events and activities. With more than 35 years experience as a professional photographer, Mr. Valdez started as a field photographer for the United States Air Force in 1967. Other assignments included Dunlop Studios, the United States Department of Agriculture and the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development. He left public service to become Chief Photographer for Nation’s Business magazine. In 1983, David was selected to serve as the personal photographer to then Vice President George Bush. In 1988, when Mr. Bush was elected President of the United States, David was given additional responsibility as Director of the White House Photo Office. Having been on assignment in 75 countries and all 50 states with President Bush, Mr. Valdez left the White House in 1993 when he was appointed General Manager of Photography for Walt Disney Attractions. During his tenure, he launched the company’s first digital imaging department, which saved the Walt Disney Attractions several million dollars each year digital imaging services. Mr. Valdez also oversaw the creative direction and administration of the Walt Disney Attractions Photography Departments, provided creative input to the WaltDisneyWorld.com and WDWnews.com web sites as well as working on a team to develop a digital library of more than four million Disney photographs. Mr. Valdez has been a featured speaker at prestigious meetings and organizations including the National Press Club, The Eddie Adams Workshop, the Smithsonian, the Corcoran Gallery of Art and the White House News Photographers Association. His photographs have been published in renowned publications such as Life, Newsweek, Time, U.S. News and World Report, Forbes, Paris Match, Hola, Hello and People. In November 1997, he published George Herbert Walker Bush: A Photographic Profile. In 2001 David joined the Annapolis based digal photography company Blue Pixal as Vice President. Today David works as the Director of Electronic and Digital Information for the Department of Housing and Urban Develeopment. Since January 2003 David Valdez has made his artistic work avaliable to the public through ARTFX gallery in Annapolis MD.
